The 10-Minute Website Audit That Reveals Why You're Losing Leads
Conversion Problems Are Rarely Mysterious
After reviewing hundreds of client sites, the same failure points appear over and over. They are not hidden — they are just invisible if you do not know what you are looking for.
This 10-minute audit will surface more about your site's conversion health than most tools. For the full CRO playbook, read Why Your Website Isn't Converting and the 8 Fixes That Work.
Minutes 1–2: The Headline Test
Open your homepage. Cover the logo. Read the first thing a visitor sees.
Does it immediately communicate what you do? Does it say who it is for? Does it give a reason to care?
If the answer to any of those is no, that is your first leak. A vague headline is the single most common reason visitors bounce in under ten seconds.
Minute 3: The One-Click Test
From your homepage, can a visitor figure out what to do next with one click?
If your navigation has eight items and there is no clear primary action above the fold, visitors are making decisions you should be making for them. Giving people too many choices is a reliable way to get them to choose nothing.
Minute 4: The Proof Check
Scroll your homepage. In the first two scrolls, do you see a testimonial, a case study result, or a client or publication logo?
Social proof placed near the top of a page meaningfully reduces bounce rates. Proof buried at the bottom rarely gets seen by the visitors who need to see it most.
Minute 5: The Mobile Test
Pull out your phone and navigate your site.
Does it load in under three seconds? Are buttons large enough to tap comfortably? Is text readable without zooming? Does anything feel broken or misaligned?
Over 60 percent of your visitors are on mobile. If your site is mobile-friendly as an afterthought rather than mobile-first by design, you are likely losing more than half your potential leads before they ever reach a form.
Minute 6: The Form Audit
Find your main contact or lead form. Count the fields.
More than four fields and you are losing submissions. Ask only for what you need at first contact — name, email, and what they are looking for. That is it. Every additional field is a decision point that gives someone a reason to stop.
Minute 7: The Speed Check
Go to PageSpeed Insights and run the mobile test on your URL.
LCP should be under 2.5 seconds. CLS should be under 0.1. If your overall performance score is below 50 on mobile, speed is actively costing you both rankings and conversions. Read the full breakdown: How Website Speed Affects SEO Rankings.
Minute 8: The Follow-Up Test
Submit your own contact form and set a timer.
How long until you receive a confirmation? How long until someone from the business actually responds?
Responding to a new lead within five minutes increases contact rate dramatically compared to responding in thirty minutes or more. If your follow-up is manual and slow, automation is the single highest-ROI fix available to most service businesses.
Minute 9: The Specific Claims Test
Skim your homepage copy and look for phrases like "high quality service," "experienced team," or "industry-leading solutions."
Now look for specific claims: a revenue number, a client outcome, an average turnaround time.
Generic claims trigger skepticism. Specific claims build trust. The goal is to replace every vague statement with something concrete enough to be believed.
Minute 10: The Competitor Comparison
Google your main keyword and click the top three direct competitors.
Compare their sites to yours honestly. Are they clearer about what they offer? Do they show more credibility signals? Is their CTA more direct?
This is not about imitation. It is about understanding the benchmark your visitors are silently comparing you to when they have three tabs open.
What to Do With What You Find
Fix what appears at the top of the page first — before the fold, in the first scroll, near the CTA. These have the highest leverage.
If you found multiple issues, start with the headline and the primary CTA. Everything else flows from those two.
